Project Brief:

This UNESCO World Heritage Site study developed a comprehensive Heritage Landscape Analysis for Al Ain Oasis, supporting future conservation, planning, and landscape enhancement in line with the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) approach.

The scope covered a multi-scale assessment of the oasis’s geological and hydrological evolution, environmental systems, cultural-historic significance, architectural heritage, and its relationship with the surrounding urban context.

Design Concept:

The study documented the oasis’s traditional Falaj irrigation system, Shari’a water distribution network, agricultural landscape, vernacular architecture, and living cultural practices through site surveys, mapping, and heritage value assessments.

The analysis established a comprehensive understanding of the oasis as a living cultural landscape, identifying key heritage attributes, opportunities, and constraints to found future conservation strategies.
