Project Brief:
Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company required consultancy services for the refurbishment and rehabilitation of Al Mafraq Wastewater Treatment Plant, one of Abu Dhabi’s three major mainland WWTPs.
The scope runs through PD, DD, TD and IFC stages, upgrading a plant that receives and treats wastewater from Abu Dhabi City and its surrounding mainland catchments.
Design Concept:
The refurbishment addresses Phase 1 (commissioned 1982, 104,250 m3/day DWF capacity) and Phase 2 (1997, 156,375 m3/day DWF capacity), improving process control and optimising the plant’s overall asset performance.
Combined, the two phases can treat a peak flow of 580,000 m3/day, equivalent to 1,115,000 people, so the refurbishment design safeguards treatment capacity for Abu Dhabi’s mainland population.
